Belarus Records $1.7 Billion in Crypto Payments, Fuelled By Sanctions

In a remarkable development, Belarus has surpassed a record $1.7 billion in cryptocurrency payments via local exchanges during the first seven months of 2025. This surge in crypto adoption is driven by international sanctions and the country’s strategic focus on utilizing digital currencies. Experts predict this trend could reach as high as $3 billion by year-end. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has acknowledged the increasing role of cryptocurrencies, particularly in the context of economic constraints imposed by sanctions. He outlined a plan for further integration of crypto into the national financial system.
