DC Attorney General Sues Athena Bitcoin Over Hidden ATM Fees

The District of Columbia Attorney General’s office has filed a lawsuit against Athena Bitcoin, alleging the company charged undisclosed fees on deposits tied to fraudulent scams and failed to implement adequate fraud protections. 93% of deposits made during the first five months of Athena’s operation in DC were linked to scams, according to the complaint filed by Attorney General Brian Schwalb. This lack of transparency is further compounded by Athena’s ‘no-refund’ policy, preventing victims from recovering their losses and alleged hidden fees.
