Ethereum’s Testnet Holešky to Shut Down as New Infrastructure Takes Center Stage

The Ethereum Foundation has announced the impending shutdown of Holešky, one of Ethereum’s largest testnets. Following a September 1st announcement detailing a two-week delay for validator disabling after the Fusaka upgrade, client, testing, and infrastructure teams will halt support on Holešky from that point forward. Launched in 2023 as ETH’s prominent public testnet for large-scale staking and validator operation tests, Holešky served as a platform for numerous protocol tests with thousands of validators, including Dencun and recent Pectra upgrades. However, the network faced inactivity after the launch of the Pectra testnet in early 2025, resulting in an extensive validator exit queue. Despite subsequent recovery and finalization, testing the entire validator lifecycle within a reasonable timeframe became impossible. This led to the transition to Hoodi as a more efficient and constraint-free test environment in March 2025. This change marks the end of an era for Holešky, paving the way for a new chapter in Ethereum’s development.
