Metaplanet to Invest Heavily in Bitcoin Amid Economic Uncertainty

Japanese publicly traded company Metaplanet has announced plans to raise approximately $8.8 billion USD through an international share offering. This funding will be used primarily to acquire Bitcoin, aiming to bolster its financial stability and hedge against currency fluctuations. 1.238 trillion yen (approximately $837 million) of the funds will be allocated for direct Bitcoin purchase, while the remaining 65.16 billion yen (44 million USD) will be directed towards managing Bitcoin-related financial operations. This strategic shift reflects Metaplanet’s proactive approach to mitigating economic risks in Japan amidst a challenging economic environment characterized by high national debt and ongoing yen depreciation.
