Crypto markets experienced a significant downturn yesterday, losing over $200 billion in value as Bitcoin’s price fell to its six-week low. Following a brief surge on Friday fueled by anticipation of potential Fed rate reductions, Bitcoin plummeted sharply before the weekend. The asset quickly dropped from near $117,000 on Friday to under $112,000, before a further decline over the weekend. Altcoins were also hit hard, with Ethereum (ETH) and XRP experiencing notable drops. While Bitcoin’s price rebounded momentarily, it failed to maintain momentum, falling below the $112,000 level once again. This brings the total market capitalization of all cryptocurrencies down to approximately $3.93 trillion.
