Metaplanet Acquires $11.7 Million in Bitcoin, FTSE Upgrade Signals Institutional Interest

Metaplanet recently acquired an additional 103 Bitcoins for approximately $11.7 million, bringing its total Bitcoin holdings to 18,991 units. This purchase is part of the company’s ongoing accumulation strategy initiated in April 2024. According to Metaplanet President Simon Gerovich, the company has invested a total of $1.95 billion, with an average acquisition cost of $102,712, to build its Bitcoin reserve. The news also comes with a significant milestone – Metaplanet was included in the FTSE Japan Index, upgrading from small to medium scale, marking a key step towards becoming a leading Bitcoin treasury in the country. This upgrade signifies growing institutional interest in the company’s approach.
