U.S. Contractor Brothers Charged with Data Deletion in Government Databases

Two former government contractors, Muneeb Akhter and Sohaib Akhter, have been charged by the U.S. Department of Justice for deleting sensitive government databases containing records related to Department of Homeland Security investigations and Freedom of Information Act requests. According to the indictment, Sohaib altered permissions and executed the deletions, while Muneeb sought advice on erasing SQL Server and Windows Server 2012 logs using AI tools. The brothers previously served time for a State Department security breach and were observed discussing removing evidence from their home and reinstalling company laptop systems before their arrest.
