Two former US government contractors, Muneeb Akhter and Sohaib Akhter, have been charged with a major cybercrime after deleting 96 sensitive government databases following their dismissal. The databases contained critical records related to Department of Homeland Security investigations and Freedom of Information Act requests, according to the Department of Justice indictment. Sohaib allegedly manipulated database access permissions and executed deletions, while Muneeb sought guidance from AI systems on how to erase SQL Server and Windows Server 2012 logs, demonstrating a calculated attempt to conceal their actions. Previously convicted for breaching the State Department, the brothers were observed removing evidence from their home and reinstalling company laptop systems before their arrest.
