Tether Halts Bitcoin Mining in Uruguay Over $4.8 Million Energy Debt

Cryptocurrency company Tether has suspended its Bitcoin mining operations in Uruguay, citing unresolved financial disputes with the local energy provider, UTE. The shutdown, impacting around 30 employees, follows an unpaid energy debt of nearly $4.8 million that accumulated over time. This move highlights ongoing challenges for crypto miners trying to stay afloat due to soaring energy costs in Latin America.
