Australia Enacts Digital Asset Framework for Enhanced Customer Protection

Australia’s Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Minister for Financial Services Daniel Mulino unveiled a new digital asset framework designed to bolster customer protection in line with the 2025 Corporate Amendment Bill. This legislation was introduced on Wednesday, aiming to address regulatory gaps within the rapidly evolving cryptocurrency landscape. The bill seeks to bring exchanges and custodial service providers under the oversight of Australia’s financial services laws, entrusting the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) with primary regulatory responsibilities.
