MTN South Africa reported a 2.8% decrease in voice revenue during Q3’25, alongside a 2.1% increase in subscribers to reach 40.1 million. The company’s financial report released on Monday details that service revenue grew by 1.4% to R32.01 billion in reported currency during the quarter. Despite this positive outlook, challenges within voice services impacted overall performance. While voice revenue declined, postpaid customers saw growth of 4.4%, mitigating some losses. EBITDA fell by 4.8% and EBITDA margin decreased by 0.4 percentage points to 35.8%. Fintech revenue also declined by 5.1%, attributed to a slowdown in Xtratime and recharges, but MoMo business exhibited robust year-on-year growth driven by InsurTech, according to MTN SA. Data revenue continued its strong performance, increasing by 6.4% in Q3. This growth was fueled by increased active data subscribers and improved data traffic. MTN SA acknowledged a positive South African economy, but competition in the prepaid market continued to pressure voice revenue. The company plans to focus on product refinement, targeted pricing strategies and channel optimization to mitigate these challenges.
