Visa announced a pilot program that will leverage stablecoins like USDC to deliver faster and more efficient payments directly to gig workers’ wallets. This innovation was unveiled at the Singapore Fintech Festival on November 12, 2025, and marks a significant step toward improving financial access for the gig economy. The initiative aims to facilitate seamless cross-border transactions and offer greater flexibility in payment options, addressing long-standing challenges faced by gig workers in receiving timely payments. This pilot program is led by Visa Inc. through its Visa Direct platform. Chris Newkirk, President of Commercial and Money Movement Solutions at Visa, stated the objective is to ensure universal access to financial resources worldwide via stablecoin technology. The potential benefits for gig workers are significant: faster cross-border payment processing, increased accessibility to global markets, and a streamlined experience overall.
