Scammers are using sophisticated tactics to defraud Australians out of their cryptocurrency. According to the Australian Federal Police (AFP), these criminals are impersonating law enforcement and exploiting government platforms to create false reports, then tricking victims into transferring funds. The scammers operate by first submitting fake reports on a national cybercrime reporting tool called ReportCyber and then posing as police officers to convince victims to access their report details on official government websites, thereby bolstering the fraudulent nature of their scheme. 1 instance involved a scammer pretending they were from a cryptocurrency company, using this tactic to persuade victims into transferring funds to their chosen wallet. Fortunately, the victim alerted authorities after noticing something amiss.
