Hidden Funds-Freezing Functions Discovered in 16 Major Blockchain Networks

A new report from Bybit’s Lazarus Security Lab reveals that 16 prominent blockchain networks possess the ability to freeze or restrict user funds. This analysis, titled ‘Blockchain Freezing Exposed: Examining the Impact of Fund Freezing Ability in Blockchain’, is the first large-scale exploration of how blockchains can intervene in user transactions to contain security incidents like hacks and exploits. Researchers examined 166 blockchain networks using an AI-driven analysis combined with manual review. They discovered that while 16 chains currently have freezing functions, another 19 could introduce them with relatively minor protocol changes.
