Supreme Court Weighs Trump’s Tariff Policies

Donald Trump has asserted his view on presidential authority concerning tariffs, claiming that limitations on this power are unnecessary and inconsistent with the Constitution. He believes he possesses full authority to halt trade negotiations and issue licenses, yet maintains restrictions on imposing tariffs for national security reasons, arguing it contradicts the intentions of the nation’s founding fathers. 🎤 On Wednesday, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments regarding the legality of Trump’s expansive tariff policies. Both liberal and several conservative justices questioned the legitimacy of these tariffs. Chief Justice John Roberts pointed out that tariff imposition constitutes taxation on American citizens, traditionally under Congressional jurisdiction. Justices appointed by Trump, Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett, presented probing questions to opponents of the tariffs. The Supreme Court, with a 6-3 conservative majority, is expected to issue its decision in December.
