Australian Police Crack Down on Organized Crime with Major Operation

In a major crackdown on organized crime, South Australian police have apprehended 55 suspects and filed over 800 new charges related to drug trafficking, weapons offenses, and conspiracy crimes. Operation Ironside, a collaborative effort between the Australian Federal Police and the FBI, is focused on dismantling these criminal networks. 55 individuals were arrested in this latest phase of the operation. The investigation has revealed that at least 1,600 devices across Australia have been utilizing the encrypted application AN0M. Previous phases of the investigation saw over 19.3 million messages intercepted. Earlier this month, the High Court ruled that collecting these AN0M messages was legal and could be used as evidence, rejecting appeals from two suspects. The Australian Federal Police has also reported a total value of seized encrypted assets related to the investigation reaching approximately AUD$37.9 million.
