OPay Launches ₦1.2 Billion Scholarship Fund for Nigerian Students

OPAY, a leading fintech innovator in Nigeria, has launched a major scholarship program aimed at empowering students nationwide for the next decade. The initiative, worth ₦1.2 billion over ten years, aims to support exceptional students across various Nigerian universities by covering full tuition fees. The program’s launch was celebrated during the Empowering Futures Conference 2025 in Ikeja, Nigeria, marking a significant step in corporate social responsibility for African youth. The scholarship details were announced at the conference following a detailed presentation and unveiling of the selection process. OPAY has collaborated with Nigerian universities to establish a transparent and meritocratic system that prioritizes academic excellence and financial need. The program focuses on direct disbursement to students via their individual accounts, bypassing institutions to minimize administrative hurdles. To ensure maximum impact, OPAY actively engages with participating institutions through tailored proposals and joint reviews to verify eligibility. Over 20 prestigious universities have already signed on as beneficiaries, including the University of Calabar, Ahmadu Bello University, and the University of Lagos. The program’s inaugural year saw significant progress, benefiting 420 deserving students. OPay has also incorporated an innovative extension to the scholarship by partnering with the University of Calabar to create a state-of-the-art Cyber Lab. This initiative leverages OPay’s fintech expertise in cybersecurity and will equip students with valuable skills for the future.
