North Korea Steals Over $2.8 Billion in Cryptocurrency, Driven by Cybercrime

A new report from the Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team (MSMT) reveals that North Korean hackers have stolen over $2.83 billion worth of cryptocurrency since January 2024. This amount represents nearly a third of the country’s total foreign currency income in 2024. The report highlights a significant increase in cybercrime activity by North Korea, with hackers stealing almost $1.64 billion in the first nine months of 2025, marking a 50% jump from last year.
