Google’s Quantum Chip Simulates Chaos in Record Time

Google has made a significant breakthrough with its Willow quantum chip. The chip successfully completed a quantum chaos simulation in just two hours, a feat that would have required significantly longer processing time on traditional supercomputers, according to research comparisons. Validation was performed using out-of-time-order correlators (OTOCs), and researchers believe this advancement could lead to improved practical applications of quantum computing, such as Hamiltonian learning. However, industry experts caution against assuming immediate impact on cryptographic foundations for Bitcoin, with some believing it might take another decade before significant effects are observable. Kostas Kryptos Chalkias, co-founder of Mysten Labs, noted this perspective.
