In a landmark settlement, cryptocurrency lender Celsius has secured a $300 million compensation from Tether following their 2024 bankruptcy lawsuit. The dispute stemmed from a 2022 agreement where Tether provided USDT to Celsius, with Bitcoin (BTC) serving as collateral. Celsius accused Tether of selling the collateralized BTC at a low price before reaching the agreed upon limit. However, Tether argued that Celsius was unfairly attempting to shift blame for their own financial mismanagement by demanding the return of approximately $2.4 billion worth of BTC. The lawsuit culminated in a settlement where Celsius received a compensation payout of $300 million, with Tether agreeing to pay the remaining balance of $299.5 million to the Celsius Network bankruptcy estate. The settlement concludes one of the final unresolved disputes as part of Celsius’s three-year bankruptcy process. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino confirmed the agreement on X, stating that they are pleased to have resolved all matters related to the Celsius bankruptcy.
