US Seizes Record $15B in Bitcoin to Target Criminal Enterprise

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has initiated a landmark civil forfeiture action targeting approximately $15 billion in Bitcoin associated with Chen Zhi, the founder and chairman of the Prince Holding Group. This seizure represents the largest in the DOJ’s history and is tied to a sprawling criminal enterprise responsible for forced-labor operations in Cambodia. 2015 onwards, the group allegedly leveraged their corporate structure to recruit hundreds of workers into forced-labor camps in Cambodia before exploiting them in “pig butchering” cryptocurrency scams. These schemes involved long-term relationships with victims, often forged through messaging or social media, before convincing them to transfer crypto into fraudulent investment accounts, resulting in billions of dollars in losses worldwide.
