S&P Global Ratings is partnering with Chainlink to provide real-time stablecoin risk assessments directly on the blockchain. This collaboration offers DeFi protocols access to these assessments, which evaluate the stability of various stablecoins using a scale from 1 to 5. Factors considered include asset quality, liquidity, redemption mechanisms, regulatory status, and governance structures. The initial assessments are available via Chainlink DataLink on Base, an Ethereum Layer 2 network, covering ten stablecoins like USDT, USDC, and Sky Protocol’s USDS/DAI. This approach focuses on operational and structural stability rather than credit ratings alone. S&P Global intends to expand these assessments based on user demand.
