Bhutan Embraces Ethereum for Secure National Digital ID System

Bhutan’s national digital identity system is transitioning from Polygon to Ethereum, marking a historic leap towards enhanced data security and control. The country’s GovTech Agency has completed the integration of Ethereum into its NDI platform, signifying a shift towards a more secure, transparent, and citizen-centric approach to digital identities. The transition follows Bhutan’s successful deployment of Polygon for the initial NDI system. 800,000 citizens will be impacted by this change, gaining greater control over their digital identity with full management capabilities. The move underscores Bhutan’s dedication to innovative blockchain technology and its commitment to leveraging digital infrastructure in public services. Ethereum’s decentralized structure, focus on data integrity, and zero-knowledge proof features played a key role in this decision.
