Fast-food chain Steak ‘n Shake has changed course on its plan to accept Ether payments after facing backlash from Bitcoin enthusiasts. The company initially proposed a poll asking customers whether it should accept Ethereum (ETH), but suspended the initiative just hours later due to significant negative feedback. Steak ‘n Shake stated it would prioritize those who support Bitcoin, citing a response to an online poll which showed majority support for Bitcoin as payment. Steak ‘n Shake has been accepting Bitcoin since May 16 in locations where allowed. It’s unclear how this decision will impact its already successful integration of Bitcoin with the business. Some Bitcoiners criticized Steak ‘n Shake’s move, accusing them of abandoning Bitcoin in favor of Ethereum and damaging their brand. Notably, Vitalik Buterin, a prominent figure in the Ethereum community, defended Steak ‘n Shake’s approach by encouraging businesses to stick with their chosen crypto tribe instead of pursuing broad appeal.
