Nigeria’s Telecoms Face Mounting Fiber Cut Crisis: 19,384 Incidents in 8 Months

Nigeria’s telecommunications industry is battling a significant fiber cut crisis. According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), over 19,384 fiber cuts occurred between January and August 2025. This figure underscores the vulnerability of critical infrastructure in the sector. The NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Aminu Maida, highlighted the severity of these incidents during a roundtable discussion organized with the Ministry of Finance, World Bank, and Nigeria Governors Forum. He emphasized that these attacks on telecom infrastructure pose a serious threat to Nigeria’s digital economy and national security.
