Rwanda Establishes First Private Coding Academy, Addressing Tech Talent Demand

Rwanda has launched its first private coding academy, marking a significant step in fostering local tech talent. The New Generation Academy (NGA), located in Kigali, offers specialized training in software programming and embedded systems, filling a gap previously addressed by the government-run Rwanda Coding Academy (RCA). This accreditation addresses the national need for skilled developers, allowing students to enter the digital economy. The academy aims to increase talent development capacity and address the limited number of slots at RCA, where many talented individuals face hurdles accessing specialized tech education.** Jean-Claude Tuyisenge, founder and managing director of NGA, highlighted this issue and emphasized the importance of the new program in fostering a skilled workforce for Rwanda’s evolving technology landscape. The academy’s approach, focusing on project-based learning even at the youngest age levels, underscores its commitment to preparing students for a tech-driven future. **NGA has hosted delegations from international organizations like UNESCO and the Ministry of ICT and Innovation, showcasing student projects highlighting AI integration in robotics, drones, and traffic light systems. The academy is positioning itself as a leader in Rwanda’s effort to become a regional technology powerhouse. **The focus on core technical skills and problem-solving abilities prepares students for successful careers in the global tech industry. This initiative aligns with Rwanda’s government vision of becoming a hub for innovation and technological advancement.** By empowering a local workforce, NGA directly contributes to reducing reliance on foreign expertise and fostering domestic innovation.
