UK Set to Lift Crypto ETN Ban for Retail Investors

The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is poised to lift a 2019 ban on crypto exchange-traded notes (ETNs) for retail investors, effective Wednesday. This change will allow investment exchanges registered with the FCA to offer these crypto-linked securities to consumers. Unlike ETFs which remain banned, ETNs represent debt securities tied directly to cryptocurrencies and not backed by underlying assets. The move comes amid anticipation from companies operating in the UK on what this change could mean for retail investors.
