Bitcoin and Ethereum Options Expire Amidst Uncertainty: Market Signals Mixed

With the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision approaching, options trading volume in crypto is picking up. Analysts are predicting a 25 basis point cut in Fed rates, with only a small chance for a more substantial move. However, this has not stopped Bitcoin and Ethereum from seeing movement towards the end of the week. 73% of market participants are anticipating a 25 basis point rate cut from the Fed, while a smaller percentage (7.3%) expect a 50 basis point cut. This anticipation is reflected in the cryptocurrency market as options contracts for both Bitcoin and Ethereum are expiring this Friday. The value of these expiring contracts is significant, totaling $3.4 billion in BTC options and $850 million in ETH options respectively.
