Stripe and Paradigm Launch Tempo Blockchain for Scalable Stablecoin Payments

Stripe and crypto firm Paradigm have launched Tempo, a new blockchain designed specifically for stablecoin payments. This private network aims to provide fast, scalable, and secure payment solutions for global financial systems. 100,000 transactions per second are targeted, with partners like Visa, OpenAI, Shopify, Deutsche Bank, and Standard Chartered on board. Tempo’s goal is to facilitate real-world use of stablecoins through efficient, reliable payments. It focuses on large-scale transaction volumes, handling global payouts, payment acceptance, remittances, and tokenized deposits. The platform utilizes a stablecoin-first design that eliminates the need for users to hold native tokens for fees, allowing payments in stablecoins. Its compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine and Reth execution client, along with its built-in automated market maker, ensures transaction neutrality regardless of the issuer used. Tempo is designed to achieve 100,000 transactions per second with finality within a second, exceeding current blockchain speeds and setting a benchmark for enterprise-level payment volume.
