India Revamps GST System: New Tax Slabs Aim to Boost Economic Growth

India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council, led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, made significant changes to the tax system on September 3, 2025. These reforms introduce a two-tiered GST system with rates of 5% and 18%, including a special 40% rate for luxury goods. The new structure is expected to simplify tax compliance and stimulate economic activity.
