Belarus President Urges for Clear Crypto Framework

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has called on lawmakers to create transparent rules governing the country’s cryptocurrency market. During a recent government conference, Lukashenko emphasized the need for clear regulations as the nation navigates this emerging area. He stated: ‘It is important for the state to determine understandable and transparent rules of the game and mechanisms for control in this sphere. It is important because it is a new area for the country.’ This comes after Lukashenko issued instructions in 2023 for comprehensive regulation of digital tokens and cryptocurrencies. He pointed out that Belarus’s interest in cryptocurrency stems from its potential to capitalize on the growth of mining, especially given its surplus electricity supply. The President also highlighted the need for clear roles within the government and the Hi-Tech Park in this area. This move follows a March directive from Lukashenko for the development of the country’s cryptocurrency mining industry.
