XRP Ledger Gets Major Upgrade: Credentials Amendment to Launch Soon

The XRP Ledger is set to undergo a significant upgrade, with the Credentials amendment expected to activate within hours. Vet reports that this amendment has received 82.86% of votes, securing its launch on September 4, 2025 at 3:51:21 UTC. This new feature will allow users and institutions to attest their compliance requirements like KYC and AML using the decentralized identity system native to the XRP Ledger.

The Credentials amendment introduces three new transaction types for managing credentials: CredentialCreate (to create a credential), CredentialAccept (to accept a issued credential), and CredentialDelete (for deleting a credential). It also modifies existing transaction types, adds fields to existing transaction types, creates a new ledger entry type, alters existing ledger entry types, and provides the ability to lookup Credential entries.

The Credentials amendment builds on recent XRP Ledger mainnet upgrades like fixAMMv1_3, fixEnforceNFTokenTrustlineV2, and fixPayChanCancelAfter.

Meanwhile, XRP has seen a dramatic price surge of 400% in the past year, outpacing Bitcoin and Ethereum’s gains. Currently, XRP is trading at $2.87 after a recent rebound from a six-day decline.
