US Pulls Back TSMC Chip Supply Access to China

The US government has revoked Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.’s (TSMC) authorization to freely supply critical semiconductor equipment to its Chinese manufacturing hub, raising concerns about potential production disruptions. This move follows a pattern of similar actions against Samsung and SK Hynix, who have also lost their validated end-user (VEU) privileges in China. The US government aims to tighten control over the flow of sensitive technology. The TSMC waiver will phase out over the next four months. 1000 new licenses are expected due to these changes.
