Paradigm Client Bug Briefly Halts Ethereum Mainnet Nodes

A technical error in Paradigm’s Reth, an alternative execution client for Ethereum, briefly caused some nodes on the mainnet to stall. This incident, which impacted users running specific Reth versions, highlights the challenges of maintaining diverse software within a system reliant on client diversity. The bug caused execution clients to freeze at block 2327426 due to issues in the client’s state root computation, stopping them from recognizing new blocks. Paradigm’s CTO, Georgios Konstantopoulos, shared recovery instructions through X, recommending specific commands for operators to restart their nodes after this temporary halt.
