Tesla’s Model Y Underperforms in India Despite High Prices

Tesla’s ambitious entry into the Indian market has encountered challenges. While the company entered the country in July, sales have fallen short of expectations. With just over 600 orders recorded, the number of vehicles delivered in India equates to the total cars delivered worldwide every four hours during Q1. Tesla aims to deliver 300-500 units from its Shanghai plant to India by 2025, targeting cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, and Gurugram. However, high tariffs have impacted pricing for the Model Y, reaching over $69,751, significantly higher than the current range of EVs in India, which typically cost around $24,966.
