OpenAI has undergone a strategic restructuring of its leadership team, introducing a new Chief Technology Officer role focused on applications development. This significant move comes alongside the acquisition of product analytics firm Statsig for $1.1 billion. The acquisition sees Statsig’s expertise in product optimization services like A/B testing integrated into OpenAI’s operations. Vijaye Raji, Statsig’s founder and CEO, will take on the newly created role of Chief Technology Officer for applications at OpenAI, directly reporting to Fidji Simo, the CEO of OpenAI’s applications division. Fidji Simo joined OpenAI following her departure from Instacart in August 2023. The acquisition of Statsig results in its employees joining OpenAI, while Statsig will maintain independent operations from their Seattle headquarters serving existing clients.
