Lagos Launches New Electric Water Transportation Service ‘Omi Eko’ in October

The Lagos State government is set to launch a new water transportation service called ‘Omi Eko’ in October, using 72 electric ferries and 25 new jetties. The project aims to decongest the city’s roads by promoting alternative water transport, while also ensuring safety for citizens. Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, highlighted that the project offers a safer mode of transportation than road travel with shorter journey times on waterways. Despite acknowledging public apprehension towards using this method, he expressed confidence in the program’s ability to build trust and promote wider adoption.
