Ethereum’s Testnet Reboot: Hoodi Takes the Lead

Ethereum has officially shut down its largest testnet, Holesky, marking the end of an era for validator testing. This transition comes after two years of service and a series of technical challenges. The network now shifts to Hoodi, a brand-new environment designed for faster and more reliable testing. The move is driven by persistent issues with Holesky’s validator queues, which made it difficult to effectively test vital features. After the Fusaka upgrade finalizes on September 15, 2025, Hoodi will take over as the primary environment for staking and validator testing. This change follows a period where developers tested major upgrades like Dencun and Pectra on Holesky. With Hoodi’s cleaner platform and faster development cycles, Ethereum is aiming to streamline its testnet ecosystem.
