Authorities Take Down VerifTools: Largest Fake ID Platform Shut Down

Law enforcement agencies have dismantled VerifTools, a major online marketplace selling counterfeit identification documents. The Dutch and US authorities shut down the platform which allowed users to purchase fake IDs for as little as $9 in cryptocurrency. The operation resulted in the seizure of 23 servers, with the FBI estimating that the platform generated an estimated $6.4 million in revenue before its closure. Dutch authorities estimate VerifTools’ annual turnover at approximately €1.3 million (roughly $1.5 million), positioning it as one of the largest sources of fake identification documents globally.
