Tether Adjusts Transition Plan for Legacy Blockchains

Stablecoin issuer Tether has updated its plans for transitioning away from five legacy blockchains: Omni Layer, Bitcoin Cash SLP, Kusama, EOS, and Algorand. Initially announced last year with a September 1, 2025 target date, the plan now aims to minimize disruption by avoiding the freezing of smart contracts on these networks. While users can still transfer tokens between wallets, Tether will halt direct issuance and redemption of tokens on these blockchains. As a result, these tokens won’t receive official support like other Tether tokens.
