Mark Zuckerberg’s ambitious push to lead the AI revolution at Meta has been met with a significant exodus of its top talent. Shengjia Zhao, co-creator of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, has already announced his departure after only weeks on the job, even though he was appointed as chief AI scientist. Other high-profile hires, including machine-learning scientist Ethan Knight and research scientists Avi Verma and Rishabh Agarwal, have also left Meta within a short timeframe. Meta’s recent attempt to recruit top researchers from companies like OpenAI and DeepMind has resulted in a revolving door effect at its Superintelligence Labs (MSL), with over three researchers having departed already.
