Hut 8 to Build Over 1.5 GW of New Bitcoin Mining Capacity Across U.S.

Canadian bitcoin mining company Hut 8 is embarking on a strategic expansion plan, aiming to significantly boost its energy infrastructure and production capacity in the United States. The company announced plans to develop four new sites across Louisiana, Texas, and Illinois, totaling 1,530 MW of power generation, doubling their current energy capacity to over 2.55 GW. This major investment will position Hut 8 for increased demand and diversify its geographic footprint. Hut 8’s expansion is supported by a strategic move to spin off its mining operations into a new entity called American Bitcoin (ABTC), which enables the company to focus on broader energy infrastructure projects while mitigating risks associated with cryptocurrency market fluctuations. The restructuring also allows Hut 8 to leverage access to lower-cost financing and position itself as a potential leader in areas like AI and high-performance computing, serving as a proxy for bitcoin’s growth.
