Google Cloud Unveils Blockchain Solution for Faster Payment Processing

Google Cloud is launching a new blockchain solution designed to revolutionize payment processing, aiming to reduce transaction times by 25%. This initiative, called Google Cloud Universal Ledger (GCUL), will offer a neutral platform for financial institutions. Currently in private testing, GCUL offers the potential to reshape traditional settlement methods and improve efficiency across the global payments market. Rich Widmann, Head of Web3 Strategy at Google Cloud, emphasizes that GCUL’s Python-based smart contract support will enable financial institutions to modernize their services. GCUL is expected to play a significant role in a $3 trillion market for payment processing by facilitating seamless integration with stablecoins and tokenized assets.
