According to Cointelegraph, the market for tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) is poised for explosive growth in a multichain future. Animoca Brands researchers have revealed that the estimated $400 trillion addressable traditional finance (TradFi) market signifies substantial potential for RWA tokenization. While the current market value of RWAs stands at just $26 billion, this represents a tiny fraction of the overall TradFi market, which far exceeds $400 trillion. The assets encompass a wide range, including private credit, treasury debt, commodities, stocks, alternative funds, and global bonds. This research highlights a race among large asset managers to develop fully-integrated platforms that control the entire asset lifecycle. The size of the TradFi addressable market is 16,000 times larger than the current on-chain market. This nascent RWA tokenization market has reached an all-time high of $26.5 billion, marking a 70% growth since the beginning of the year, according to industry tracker RWA.xyz. These impressive figures signal clear momentum and growing institutional confidence in the sector. 80% of the current RWA market value is attributed to private credit and US Treasurys, but the nascent market’s growth offers a glimpse into potential future leadership from Ethereum and its layer-2 networks such as ZKsync Era, Polygon, and Arbitrum, which together hold a 76% share. The researchers attribute Ethereum’s dominant position to its security, liquidity, robust developer ecosystem, and thriving DeFi applications. The rise of RWA tokenization could further drive demand for related crypto assets like Ether (ETH) and Chainlink (LINK), both of which recently outperformed the broader crypto market. However, the researchers emphasize that RWA activity is expanding across a multichain ecosystem, encompassing public and private blockchains. Their findings suggest interoperability will be essential for long-term success in this growing space. Animoca Brands recently launched its own tokenized RWA marketplace called NUVA, further shaping the evolving landscape of real-world asset tokenization.
