Interpol Seizes $100 Million in Crypto Crackdown Across Africa

In a significant operation, Interpol’s Operation Serengeti 2.0 has resulted in the seizure of nearly $100 million in cryptocurrencies and equipment across 18 African countries. This coordinated effort led to the arrest of over 1,209 individuals suspected of involvement in cybercrime during June to August 2025. The operation targeted various cybercrime activities including illicit mining operations, fraudulent schemes, and power-related crimes.

The crackdown dismantled 45 illicit power stations and 25 illegal mining centers, showcasing the coordinated nature of the effort. Additionally, the operation recovered an impressive $97.4 million in financial assets, directly impacting the economic landscape across Africa, notably with substantial losses for investment fraud cases in Zambia affecting over 65,000 victims.
