Philippines Proposes Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Act for Economic Security

Philippine lawmakers have introduced a House Bill 421 to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve (SBR). The bill, proposed by House ICT Committee chairperson Migz Villafuerte, aims to see the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) acquire 2,000 BTC annually for five years. These assets would be held in trust for another 20 years, diversifying the Philippines’ financial portfolio and strengthening its economic security. This initiative aligns with a global trend of national governments exploring Bitcoin reserves. Villafuerte highlights Bitcoin’s substantial growth, citing a CAGR of approximately 40% over the past five years as justification for the proposal.
