India Embraces Blockchain for Digital Services and Governance

The Indian government is launching a major push to integrate blockchain technology and artificial intelligence (AI) into its public services, aiming to improve transparency and efficiency across various sectors. The ‘Amrit Kaal’ vision outlines plans to implement these technologies in land records, supply chains, and digital commerce by 2027. These initiatives aim to empower citizens with more accessible services while promoting inclusivity and addressing regional inequalities.

The country’s ‘IndiaAI’ mission focuses on using AI for various public service applications, including health, education, and digital literacy programs. To ensure data security in land records, pilot projects using blockchain are underway in Chandigarh and Telangana. These efforts will make property transactions more secure and accessible.

Digital commerce is also being revolutionized by initiatives like the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), which supports small businesses by connecting them to wider markets through Common Service Centers. The Ministry of MSME has launched the TEAM scheme to facilitate participation in this network, particularly for smaller firms.

The government has also taken steps to enhance cybersecurity and data protection across its infrastructure. Initiatives like CERT-In and NCIIPC are working to secure public services against cyber threats while safeguarding citizens’ data through measures outlined by the Digital Personal Data Protection Act of 2023.

This new approach reflects India’s ambition to become a global leader in innovative and sustainable governance.
