Thailand’s tourism industry is looking to embrace digital innovation with the launch of ‘TouristDigiPay,’ a pilot program enabling tourists to convert cryptocurrencies into Thai baht for local spending. This initiative, set to roll out in late 2025, is a strategic move to stimulate travel and revive the nation’s declining tourism sector. Regulatory agencies, including the SEC, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and the Anti-Money Laundering Office will oversee this program, ensuring capped conversions to mitigate potential financial risks such as money laundering. The pilot program focuses on regulated exchanges to facilitate smooth currency conversion. While initial impact remains to be seen, Thailand hopes this initiative will pave the way for a more integrated future where cryptocurrencies play a role in global tourism.
