New York Lawmaker Proposes 0.2% Tax on Digital Asset Transactions

New York Assemblymember Phil Steck has introduced a bill to impose a 0.2% excise tax on all transactions involving digital assets, including cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The legislation, Bill 8966, seeks to generate revenue for the state’s coffers and could significantly impact companies operating within New York.
