Google Play Enforces Licensing Rules for Custodial Crypto Wallets in 15+ Regions

Google Play is implementing stricter licensing requirements for custodial crypto wallet apps across 15 regions starting October 29th. This new policy, impacting developers in the US, UK, and EU, aims to enhance financial compliance and consumer protection within the digital asset space. Notably, non-custodial wallets will remain exempt from these changes. Developers must comply with local financial regulations to maintain their apps on the Play Store. This includes registering as either money service businesses or money transmitters in the US and becoming crypto-asset service providers in the EU, respectively. Google’s move aligns with broader regulatory efforts aimed at ensuring responsible cryptocurrency application development and usage.
